Comment:

Due to my horrifying experience watching the previous xxxHolic, I avoid watching it at night because I don't want to have a nightmare when I go to sleep (okay, I admit I'm a scaredy crow). I was thinking that xxxHolic:Kei would give me a similar experience but unfortunately, the second installment of this anime isn't scary at all. Then again, you don't have to worry about anything about all of the scary stuffs portrayed in the previous installment is no longer in xxxHolic:Kei.

Even though the scary elements are no longer present in xxxHolic:Kei, this series still continue where the previous storyline was left off. If you're wondering why Yuuko keeps on telling Watanuki that Himawari is not his goddess of fortune, this second installment will give you the answer. And if you're looking forward to Watanuki x Doumeki combination, you'll see this combination most of the time throughout the anime. Since Watanuki really hates Doumeki so much, then you'll see lots of crazy antique between them.

Characters from previous installment also makes another appearance in this anime such as Ame Warashi, Zashiki Warashi, Koda Kitsune and Kitsune family that sells oden. It's nice to see them again in this anime but they will only appear on the last few episodes. If you really want to see them, then fast forward to the last few episodes. Okay, I'm kidding.

In order not to make this anime boring, new characters are also introduced in this anime such as Doumeki's grandfather (you'll be surprised to see him, lol), a hippo who sells the dream and he can speak Kansai-ben and the girl who looks like a cat. I didn't include the villain because it's better for you to find out yourself.

Even with the introduction of new characters, I still find that this anime doesn't have the feeling like the previous one so I find the second installment boring most of the time. It doesn't make me feel so eager to watch so I can only recommend this anime to people who have watched the previous installment because most of the story in the second installment is related with the previous one. Even if you have watched the previous installment, I believe you don't miss anything much if you didn't watch xxxHolic:Kei. Therefore, I can say that you don't have to watch this anime unless you are true xxxHolic fans.

Bus Gamer anime review

June 20th 2009 07:32
Bus Gamer is an anime adapted from the manga by Minekura Kazuya. The anime consists of 3 episodes altogether.

Bus Gamer, anime

Genres: adventure, mystery

Synopsis: When three complete strangers, Mishiba Toki, Nakajyo Nobuto and Saitoh Kazuo, are hired by a corporation to compete in the Bus Game, an illegal dog-fight conducted in strict secrecy, they are given the team code of "Team AAA" (Triple Anonymous). This group of three who differ entirely from their living environments to their personalities have to work together effectively, but without mutually wiping out their mistrust of each other or prying into each other's privacy. They only have one point in common - each of them need a large amount of money for their individual circumstances. To get the money, they must play in the game despite their very own lives being at stake.

Comment:

It's nice to see another manga from Minekura Kazuya adapted into anime but I felt disappointed with this anime somehow. Of course I'm not expecting the character design to follow exactly like the original drawing but what I am disappointed the most is the storyline. I haven't get my hands on the manga version yet so basically I have no idea whether the anime itself does follow the original storyline or not.

Honestly, even if you have never read the manga version, you can still see there are quite a lot of missing points here. In the first episode, there is a little bit about their pasts and there is also another bits of their past in the second episode. By seeing this, of course you start to wonder the reason why they joined this game have something to do with their pasts or not. However, this anime failed to relate their pasts with the reasons. As far as I can see from this anime, their pasts are included just for the sake of putting it into the anime. Therefore, the mysteries of their pasts are just left hanging. The reason why they join the game is indeed very clear but relating it with their pasts is something that I don't get it. If you're expecting to see character development, unfortunately you can't because you wouldn't see any development with just 3 episodes.

This anime does have violence but it wasn't that many because it'll be ridiculous if too many violence in 3 episodes. So. all I can say don't worry too much about all of those blood and gore.

Overall, I am very disappointed with this anime as the storyline for this anime has been cut short so then it can fit 3 episodes. Because of this, I was left confused and it bored me to death. So, I highly recommend you to read the manga instead of watching the anime version.

Kurenai anime review

June 13th 2009 10:04
Kurenai is an anime adapted from a light novel written by Kentarou Katayama. This anime has 12 episodes altogether.

Kurenai, anime

Genres: action, comedy, drama

Themes: incest, loli

Synopsis: Based on a series of light novels, Kure-nai is about the adventures and misadventures of 16-year-old Kurenai Shinkurou. Shinkurou is an authority in settling disputes between people, and finds his life turned upside down one day when he is assigned as a bodyguard for Kuhouin Murasaki, the daughter of a powerful plutocratic family.

Comment:

I know the first thing you had in mind when you read the synopsis, you will immediately start to think that Shinkurou is a lolicon. I wouldn't say that based on my first impression for this anime but I simply ignore the fact that he's a lolicon. I haven't finished watching this anime yet so I can't prove whether he really is a lolicon or not. If he's a lolicon, I can't do anything about it because that's how the story supposed to be =____=.

Storyline-wise, you may not get the whole plot at first because it looks a bit chaotic in the first episode, but somehow the mysteries are revealed one by one as the story progressed. The storyline can be very slow to some people so if you're expecting a lot of actions involved, unfortunately this anime is not what you have expected because it only has minimal actions.

As far as I'm watching this anime, I really love how Murasaki has changed from a spoilt brat into an independent child. It is a great progress for a child like her who is raised in that kind of environment. It really amazed me even more that she can talk like a grown-up despite of the fact that she's only 7 years old. And also, she already knows how to do housework even though she never did those kind of stuff before. At first I really hate her because she treats everyone like her servants but after she learns about life outside Kuhouin family, I believe she really is a remarkable child.

Overall, the story can be a bit complicated and slow at first but if you leave the complicated affair aside, this is really an enjoyable anime to watch. It may have the lolicon impression at first, but I believe this isn't a bad anime after all.
