Chobits anime review
December 12th 2009 12:25
Chobits is an anime adapted from the manga by CLAMP. This anime consists of 26 episodes altogether.
Genres: comedy, drama, romance, science fiction
Themes: love, robot girl
Age rating: Mature (May contain sex, drugs, and extreme graphic violence)
Synopsis: In the future, personal computers have developped into "Persocons", mobile computers that look like human beings. Hideki Motosuwa, a prep school student, desperately wants to buy a Persocon but cannot afford to. One day he finds a Persocon that has been thrown away and decides to keep it. When he turns on the Persocon, all she can say is "Chii" so he decides to name her that. After a while it starts to become apparent that Chii is more than an average Persocon. Having much better performance, it seems that Chii might be a "Chobit", a type of advanced Persocon rumoured to have independent thought.

Again, I've been saying this over and over again that I'm not that into shoujo anime and yet I still watched it. Most probably I never learned my lesson so that's why I've been repeating the cycle. Excuse me for my rant. Let's move along with storyline shall we?
The storyline starts off very interesting as there are a lot of funny things happened in the early episode. The humors can be sexual humors so if you can't tolerate with this kind of stuff, I suggest you move yourself away from this anime. The explanation of what is Persocon is easy to understand as it's not really science fiction anime (I don't know why I suddenly recall Ergo Proxy). I can say that the storyline hits off perfectly fine in the beginning.
As the storyline has grown deeper, it doesn't seem to make sense anymore. What I mean is the story suddenly becomes so twisted that I have no idea what is really happening. I always thought that it will be revealed at the end of the series but sadly, it only just leave me with a clifthanger. So, I just had a feeling that they might have left important things about Chi. Because of this, I just had an utter disappointment in this anime because of its fuzzy storyline.
Honestly, this anime would be great if the storyline isn't so skimpy. I really hate it if the anime starts off very well but have a crappy ending. Judging from the total episode along with the growing number of mysteries, I know it would never be enough. I know they really want us to jump to manga straight away but still, I would still prefer to have a nice ending. This is the typical traits of shoujo anime where they tend to end miserably.
