Fairy Tail anime review
January 30th 2010 10:40
Firstly, I would like to apologize for having such a long hiatus. Okay, you can say that I don't have any anime review to write and you're right about that. Actually, I can't recall what other anime I have watched so there seems to be a huge gap here. But then again, now I'm back with another review. So I hope you enjoy this review (and the anime as well) as much as I do.
Fairy Tail is an anime adapted from the manga which is created by Mashima Hiro. This anime is still an on-going anime when this review is written.
Genres: action, comedy, magic
Synopsis: Lucy is a 17-year-old girl, who wants to be a full-fledged mage. One day when visiting Harujion Town, she meets Natsu, a young man who gets sick easily by any type of transportation. But Natsu isnt just any ordinary kid, he's a member of one of the world's most infamous mage guilds: Fairy Tail.

I've been Mashima Hiro fan ever since I started and watched Groove Adventure Rave so I would say that I would be pretty much familiar with his work. Of course I was so enthusiastic to hear that Fairy Tail will be adapted into anime. Even though I have never read the manga, but since I know Mashima Hiro's capability so well, I bet this anime version will be as awesome as the manga version.
Now, let's move on with the storyline first because this is the thing that I believe that majority of us is concerned about. Initially, there is a brief introduction about the magic world and simple explanation about Fairy Tail as one of the guild before the anime starts (I mean even before the OP starts). I was thinking that it might be there until the anime ends. However, I think starting Episode 12, they have removed the introduction (correct me if I'm wrong though). Well, it wasn't such a big deal to me because if you've been watching this anime diligently, I would say that you're already familiar with what is Fairy Tail. Other than that, the character introduction is doing well but you may not be able to remember the whole Fairy Tail members as up until this point, only a few Fairy Tail members are introduced. The character introduction is simple with their own antiques so believe me, Fairy Tail has a lot of entertaining characters.
To be honest, I never expected that Fairy Tail can be this laidback compared to Rave. It's not that Rave doesn't have any laidback moment, it's just that Fairy Tail has a lot of funny expressions which you will rarely see in Rave. Even though Fairy Tail is a new "baby" by Mashima Hiro, Fairy Tail captures me more than Rave. I thought that I would only be able to see these funny expressions in the first few episodes, but until the recent episode (the last episode I watched was Episode 13), the pattern remains the same. Because of this, I'm always looking forward to watch this anime.
Anyway, if you've been reading or watching Rave long enough, you'll be reuniting back with our dear friend from Rave, Plue. Rather than becoming Haru's follower, now he becomes Lucy's celestial spirit. Plue has made its first appearance on Episode 3 if I'm not mistaken but its power remains mysterious. I'm looking forward to see what sort of power it holds.
There are a few resemblances between Rave and Fairy Tail as the character designs look the same with Rave. For example, Gray looks exactly like Musica minus the piercing and SiegRain looks like SiegHart! Of course this is not a coincidence as Fairy Tail is created by the same person who creates Rave. But not to worry, they may look the same but they have totally different attitude.
Overall, Fairy Tail is much more entertaining than Rave simply because it has a very laidback storyline. Regardless of the fact that the character designs can be tad similar with Rave, it still entertaining to watch the characters with different twist. If you're looking for action-packed anime with comedy blends into one, this anime is simply for you.
