Gokusen is an anime adapted from the manga by Kozueko Morimoto. The manga has also been adapted into live action series as well. The anime consists of 13 episodes altogether.
Genres: comedy, slice of life
Themes: delinquents, school, yakuza
Age rating: Teenagers (May contain bloody violence, bad language, nudity)
Synopsis: Kumiko "Yankumi" Yamaguchi enters Shirokin Gakuen Private School to become a math teacher. She's assigned as the homeroom teacher for class 2-4, populated by a gang of delinquents. At first, the class tries everything to rattle her cage, but to no avail. In a short period of time, Yankumi gains the respect of the class. But what the school doesn't know is that she's the heir to the Oedo Group, a powerful Yakuza clan. So while Yankumi struggles to excel in her career as a teacher, she must also keep her Yakuza background a secret.

Before I start with the review, I would like to apologize for not providing any screencaps for this anime. I know that it feels so lacking not to provide screencaps for this anime but I can't seem to find proper screencaps. Most screencaps that I found are the live action versionwhich I despised a lot. But then again, please forgive me for not providing any screencaps in this review.
Firstly, it is a shame that this anime only have 13 episodes. I would say this is indeed a great anime because this anime really does exposed about Yakuza. We may not know how true is this lifestyle but I can say that it really does gives us an idea about yakuza world. With the basic concept of story such this is a refreshing feeling. It really does make you feel that Kumiko imitates Onizuka (GTO) but honestly, Kumiko's action is way logical than what Onizuka did. I'm not going to make comparison with GTO any longer, so I should stop now.
Going back to storyline, I may not know much about yakuza related anime but I do believe that this anime indeed has a unique storyline. Rather than having a man becomes the heir of the yakuza group, we have a woman instead. Best of all, she wants to be a teacher instead of staying at home just like the typical person who lives in yakuza family. Also, due to how gruesome is yakuza, it is hard for people raised in yakuza family to find normal job. This is the dilemma that Kumiko faced.
Other than Kumiko's dilemma, she also has to deal with her students' disciplines problems. This is what makes the story a lot more interesting because rather than handle it the normal way, she's solving it the yakuza way! Not to worry, it's not as violent as you thought so just rest assure.
This anime is absolutely a must watch but sadly, 13 episodes are simply not enough. If you really are craving for more, I highly recommend you to read the manga instead.
