I find that this anime is unique in its own way based on the synopsis. Of course, by reading the synopsis is interesting enough to watch this anime. However, this anime really does isn't your average anime. You'd better read more because I'm going to mention the important aspect of this anime.
So, are you with me?
The first thing that I noticed about this anime is the battle style. Of course, I'm very much amazed with the battle style because the battle is just like the one in The Matrix (you know, like there is a slow motion in between battle). This battle style is very apparent in the first few episodes but in the later episodes, the battle is just like the typical samurai battle. I'm not saying that kind of battle is boring but somehow, I'm much more looking forward to see that kind of battle scene instead of the usual battle scene. It's not a bad thing to include this kind of battle scene but I wish they would have include this kind of scene even more.
Before I move on with the important part of this review which is the storyline, there is something that I must clarify here. If you're familiar with samurai anime, of course you can expect there will be blood splashing everywhere. It can be very gross for people who have never watched this kind of anime before. However, this blood splashing scene in this anime is way beyond the normal blood splashing scene. I don't mind with the blood splashing scene in this anime but it is way too much for me to handle. Who could have bear this kind of scene where the blood is splashing like a full, huge tank of red wine exploded and spilling everywhere. Even if you're used with blood splashing, this is way too much. If you hate this kind of scene, avoid this anime at all cost.
As for storyline, the storyline isn't so direct which makes you have to think hard in order to understand the storyline. I'm sorry to spoil the storyline but I have no idea how am I supposed to explain this part without relating it back with the plot. In the early episode, we know that Kuromitsu is immortal and Kuro becomes immortal too (sort of) thanks to Kuromitsu. Guess what, even though Kuromitsu told him to suck her blood so then he becomes immortal, I've no idea why it ends up like they're having sex in the forest. Maybe it's not really sex but what is that if you find Kuromitsu naked and Kuro is on top of her? Yes, that is the proof that he really lust for her until up to the point that he wants to strip her even in the forest but I just don't get why everybody is lusting over her even the enemies.
The storyline is getting more confused as it keeps on leaping from one era to another era. Not just that, in every single era that Kuro has been, it's always him searching for Kuromitsu. Of course I don't get it at first but in the last episode, Kuromitsu has mentioned something which I find that she's a selfish bitch for making Kuro lives in such a mess. I've no idea what Madhouse Studio had in mind because the mysteries of the enemies with the same symbol in every era has not been resolved and why they're attacking people is still unknown. I've no idea whether the manga is also similar like the anime version but sadly, leaving the mysteries off from the anime is really a cruel thing to do because it will only make the anime ends without a proper ending.
Honestly, I find that the anime is interesting to watch at first but no thanks to the confusing storyline, too much of blood splashing will only turns you off. I have no idea how I managed to watch this anime until the end but I'm only watching only to answer my curiosities. Watching it until the end really does answer my curiosities but not all. This anime is meant for Kurozuka fans. If you're not, don't waste your time watching this anime unless you have no life.
