Honestly speaking, I rarely watched sport-based anime and the only sport-based anime I've ever enjoyed watching is Slam Dunk which was happened to be a few years back. So watching Ookiku Furikabutte really reminds me a lot how fun watching this kind of anime. Let me just tell you one thing that I only start watching the first episode of this anime and my opinion on this post is based on the first episode and first impression of this anime.
Okay, the anime starts pretty well with the introduction of the main character Mihashi and his traumatic experience in middle school. I have to admit that I don't like this kind of character who has a very low self-esteem but it's understandable since he had a very traumatic experience during middle school. Perhaps, I should stop talking about Mihashi so much and let's just leave it as it is. Storyline-wise, the main point is very straightforward where the storyline focused on building Mihashi's confidence as a pitcher, their aim to go to Koshien and of course to train to become a strong team. I believe this kind of storyline is quite similar with any sport-based anime so if you like this kind of anime, this will be enjoyable for you to watch.
You might be thinking that if you want to enjoy watching this kind of anime, you need to have a knowledge in this particular sport. In this case, you don't need to have a knowledge in this sport if you want to enjoy watching this kind of anime. In Ookiku Furikabutte, the rule of the game and the techniques are explained reasonably well and every single jargon is given explanation so watching this kind of anime is a bliss since you don't have to know about the game in advance. Even a person like me who have no clue about baseball can become an expert in a jiffy just by watching this anime.
You also might be thinking that most people who are watching this anime must be a baseball freak. Again, that's not true because personally, I don't like baseball but I still find this anime enjoyable because it's not just purely sports, but this anime also has a very balance mixture of knowledge and humor so even if you don't like this sport, you'll find that it's a fun anime to watch.
Honestly, that's the kind of impression I had before I started watching and reading Slam Dunk but after that, I was so hooked with this kind of anime and Ookiku Furikabutte is no exception. Overall, watch this anime whether you're a baseball freak or not. This is an enjoyable anime to watch for all ages XD.
