Saiunkoku Monogatari II is the sequel of the previous season of Saiunkoku Monogatari.

Synopsis: Shuurei needs to deal with more obstacles in the new series. More danger comes her way but at the same time meeting friends who will help her with her work as an official.

This is obviously for people who have watched the previous season as this anime is the continuation of the previous story. Well, it's fine if you want to watch this anime without watching the previous season but it takes time for you to grasp the whole plot. For those who really want to know what do I think about the second installment, read more....
Well, since this is the second season, you can always expect there will be a new plot of course, new OP and ED and not to mention new characters. So let me start with the OP and ED first since this is a rather short explanation about this matter. I thought that the OP would be different but unfortunately, the OP is the same like the first season. It's not that I hate the OP, it's just that I have already look forward to the new OP. Because of this, I also thought that the ED might be the same (okay, I've become sarcastic for this part) but luckily it's different. Now, I end my ramble about the OP and ED.
Now, let's move on to the plot. Like I said, the plot is based on the previous season. At first I find it pretty boring because in the early part of this anime, it's mostly focused on Eigetsu (I don't really like you, Eigetsu, so please forgive me) so I find it boring most of the time. If you're Ryuuki fan (I do *raise my hand*), unfortunately Ryuuki doesn't really appear that frequent because the early part of the anime focused on Sa province issues. I'm pretty impressed with Shuurei's growth because she has become a very good negotiator. She had won countless agreement with many people which makes the plot becomes more interesting. But still, I would still much prefer the first season plot because the first season plot sparks my inner curiosity. As for the second season, I find it hard to believe that I'm not that curious of what's going to happen after that, which leads me to be able stop watching when I'm supposed to.
Speaking of new characters, there are quite a lot of new characters, be it the good one and the evil one. Some of the characters are nicely introduced in the plot so the new characters' appearance won't make the whole plot looks fuzzy but there are some characters who have mysterious background, so you can only know about this characters more as the story progressed. Introduction of new characters in this anime will make the plot becomes more interesting and also to prevent the plot from becoming blah.
Overall, Saiunkoku Monogatari II still holds the main element of the previous season such as love and politics so it doesn't differ much from the previous season. So, if you're worried that the second season will be a lot more different than the first season, fear not because it still have the the first season essence. Watch it if you're very curious with the continuation from the previous season and at the same time the relationship development between Ryuuki and Shuurei.
