Samurai Champloo anime review
June 2nd 2008 03:16
Samurai Champloo is an anime directed by Watanabe Shinichiro (which is also the director of Cowboy Bepop). This anime has 26 episodes altogether and it's also adapted into manga.
Genres: action, adventure, comedy, drama
Age rating: Mature (May contain sex, drugs, and extreme graphic violence)
Synopsis: Mugen is a fierce animal-like warrior with a unique Bboying (break-dance) inspired fighting style. Jin has a more traditional style but don’t think of this as a weakness because his skills are amazing. The two contrasting samurai warriors are far from friends, yet their separate paths seem to cross anyways. Mugen is wandering aimlessly through the city when he stumbles upon a teahouse where he meets Jin and Fuu (A ditzy waitress, but don‘t think she doesn‘t have anything hidden up her sleeves). Fuu convinces them both to come with her in search of a mysterious samurai that smells like sunflowers and their journey begins. This modernized hip-hop tale breaks the barriers of the common, historical, samurai anime.

Comment: This anime really breaks the typical normal samurai anime because this is the only samurai anime that has a very visible hiphop element. I don't really like hiphop but this anime is truly unique because it's a samurai anime we're talking about. The storyline is quite straightforward so it's very easy to understand. The past of each characters will revealed a little as the story progressed, making it even more interesting. Even though it's different than the normal samurai anime, the fighting style is still the same like the normal samurai anime but the only difference is they don't really have any special move. But be aware that most samurai anime always have violent element so this anime is not exceptional. There are always funny moment in Samurai Champloo so if you're looking for something extraordinary, this anime is for you.
