Genres: action, comedy, drama, fantasy, romance, supernatural

Themes: developing powers, superpowers

Synopsis: Sakai Yuuji, a high school student who expected his normal life to last forever, is dead. When he was on his way home he witnessed a shocking view as the world suddenly froze: people were engulfed by blue flames and a monster resembling a large doll swallowed them. Just as the monster prepared to consume Yuuji, a sword-wielding girl in black attire with flaming red eyes and hair that burns like embers saved him from the monster. The girl called herself a "Flame Haze" who hunts the "Guze no Tomogara", creatures from another world. As Yuuji noticed a blue flame in his chest, she called him a "Torch", a temporary replacement, saying that the "real" Yuuji's existence had already ended. Unfazed, Yuuji befriended the strange girl, named her "Shana", and joined her fight against Tomogara and other Flame Hazes.

Comment:

Honestly, I think it's been a long I haven't watched this kind of anime where the anime is adapted from a novel. At first, it was kinda hard for me to grasp the meaning of the terms as the meaning of the terms are kinda more or less the same. Even though I don't really get it at first, but eventually I manage to understand the terms better because they've been repeating the terms over and over again. Fine, you can say I'm slow.

In terms of storyline, I would say that it's easy to understand if you managed to grasp the terms better. However, even though this anime seems to have a lot of terms and mysteries, the storyline isn't as complicated as I thought. It's not that straightforward but it's not twisted either. I would say that the storyline seems to have a perfect balance. Apart from that, the anime itself also have a laid-back episode where Shana doesn't fight with anybody (I mean with any Tomogara).

I must say that the storyline seems to have a variety, which means that this anime isn't purely action anime. It is true that you have to see all sorts of battle but you can also see other side as well like slice of life element. I wouldn't want to spoil you but I think you can actually guess what I mean by that. (Clue: love rival).

Overall, this anime is indeed a must-watch anime especially if you prefer action-oriented anime. Besides that, the storyline isn't really that complicated as long as you understand the terms. So, this is one of the anime that I think you should give it a shot.
