The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi anime review
July 20th 2008 06:55
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi (also known as Suzumiya Haruhi no yuutsu) is one of the Japan's Favorite Anime. The anime has 14 episodes altogether.
Genres: comedy, psychological, science fiction, slice of life, supernatural
Themes: otaku, school
Age rating: Teenagers (May contain bloody violence, bad language, nudity)
Synopsis: On the first day of high school a beautiful girl named Haruhi Suzumiya introduces herself as having "no interest in ordinary humans". She asks for any aliens, time travelers, sliders or espers to join her. Watching her weird behaviour is Kyon who sits in front of Haruhi and is the only person who talks to her. When Kyon comments about Haruhi's joining every club in school and then quitting he unwittingly gives Haruhi an idea to start her own after school club. Thereafter Kyon and several others find themselves dragged, literally, into the Save our world by Overloading it with fun Suzumiya Haruhi's Brigade (the S.O.S. Brigade for short).

Comment: The first thing I noticed about this anime: the anime doesn't even have any sequences. For example, the first episode is about the film they've made and the second episode is about how Kyon met Haruhi. And the next episode is talking about other things that is not related at all with the second episode and finally the next episode will continue from the second episode. I've no idea what's the reason behind it. It could probably to spice things up and making the story very unpredictable. Even though each episodes have different way of linking, I highly suggest you not to miss watching any of the episode because somehow you might not be able to link all of the episodes altogether. I know it sounds really ridiculous but maybe this what the anime wants to achieve. The jokes can be very normal and somehow can be very perverted. I find the anime pretty ordinary despite of the fact that it's a famous anime in Japan. Therefore, if you really wonder what's so great about this anime, try watching this anime. You'll be the judge~
