Whenever there's an anime that features food, I immediately think Yakitate! Japan. For those who have never watched Yakitate! Japan, you'll start to wonder what is the relationship between Yumeiro Patissiere. Obviously, there is no relationship between Yakitate! Japan and Yumeiro Patissiere other than it's a food-based anime but there is a slight similarity between Yakitate! Japan and Yumeiro Patissiere.
One of the most significant I find in this anime is how they illustrate the taste of the food. In Yumeiro Patissiere, you can expect the illustration of the taste can be so overwhelming like the one in Yakitate! Japan but Yakitate! Japan is still in my top rank when it comes to taste illustration. Since Yumeiro Patissiere is all about cakes and sweet desserts, the taste illustration can only indicate what sort of happiness it produced, unlike in Yakitate! Japan where the bread can have any kind of taste.
It's hard to judge the storyline since I'm only watching the first episode and based on the preview of the next episode, it seems like Ichigo did face a lot of obstacles in order in the beginning. Whenever I watched shoujo anime, I always feel like something is missing. It may feel like the storyline is flowing nicely but I just had a feeling that something is missing from the storyline. I can't say anything much about the storyline because I don't read the manga. Feel free to share if you watch the anime and also read the manga.
Now, for the fun part. Since this is the food anime, what kind of anime is that if there's no screencaps about the desserts. If you love sweet stuffs, you may drool by just watching this anime. I don't like sweet stuffs but I can't resist how pretty it looks. I'm so sorry because I have no idea what are they called.
I can't say anything much about this anime but I think this anime may not be as intense as Yakitate! Japan because it's more on shoujo anime side rather than the typical food anime. You'll be seeing a lot of character's development more instead of learning what are desserts called. This can be pretty interesting for those who love shoujo anime but it can be a boring anime for those who think this anime will be just like Yakitate! Japan. But, if you don't want an anime that makes you hungry after just watching it, this anime is better as it has less side effect compares to Yakitate! Japan.
