To put it simply, the story doesn't really relate much with Natsume Yuujin-chou but there are some part that his past reflected in some of the episodes. Therefore, if you're not familiar with the story, you can get the idea what is this story is all about. However, I still recommend you to watch Natsume Yuujin-chou first before you watch Zoku Natsume Yuujin-chou.
In terms of storyline, I find that there is nothing new about the storyline other than different kind of spirits that Natsume encounters. If you think it's boring, then perhaps you haven't really venture much about this anime. Most of the episodes that I have watched so far is really touching. Again, I found that this anime is also very relaxing and easy to understand when it comes to storyline, so I would highly recommend you to watch this anime after you have watched Natsume Yuujin-chou. Besides, this anime is also a funny anime which is another reason why you should watch this anime.
I know some of us might think that the second season is always degrading in terms of storyline, but this anime is still intact with the previous season, making this anime a lot more interesting. Watch this and you know what I mean~
